Charities We Support
Pittsburgh Youth Network
Pittsburgh Youth Network (PYN) was established in 1979 as a project of the Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation. Twenty years later, it continues to serve the youth of our city as they endeavor to grow morally, spiritually, intellectually, and socially. PYN is a coalition of churches, youth-serving agencies and youth workers bringing together resources to better serve the children and youth of the greater Pittsburgh area. PYN is an inter-denominational, inter-racial network of youth workers. In 1997 the network included 400 churches, serving over 5000 youth at PYN sponsored events. PYN is viewed by many national youth experts to be a unique and incredibly successful adventure in collaboration and networking.
Family Guidance, Inc.
Family Guidance, Inc. is committed to supporting children and restoring families of all cultures in western Pennsylvania by working in concert with local churches and communities to share the love of Jesus Christ through building meaningful relationships with God and others. Family Guidance, Inc. (originally founded as Youth Guidance, Inc.) is a community-based Christian organization that has been committed to helping children and families since 1964. Our programs focus on the needs of youth and families today. At risk families, a rapidly growing segment of our population, have special needs. They require special programs that build confidence, help them to develop positive relationships, and instill values that will help them make good decisions.
Communities In Schools
Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation's largest nonprofit network dedicated to encouraging students to stay in school. CIS helps young people achieve school success by providing them and their families access to personal, accountable, and coordinated services at an educational site. CIS has been the leader in helping local communities form public/private partnerships that put human services into the schools on behalf of youth and their families. Public schools alone cannot solve the problems faced by so many of our youth. The problems require a major community effort. Since its incorporation in 1977, Communities In Schools has grown from a small local operation to a highly effective national organization encompassing 179 programs in 32states. CIS is reaching over 1.9 million young students and their families.
Christ's Haven For Children
Christ's Haven for Children was established in 1954 to provide a long-term, loving home for abused, neglected, abandoned, or orphaned children between the ages of five and seventeen on campus. Pre-school children, birth to age four, are placed in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Christ's Haven works to put families back together; while the children are in our care, we encourage regular contact with their families through monthly visitations, letter writing, and phone calls. Christ's Haven supports family counseling, participate in crisis intervention, and give seminars on family relations.
